The "Wishing Tree" is child-level symbol of finding resources and powers to solve problems - whether inside ourselves or in our community and the world around us. There's always a step of "taking a breath," calming down and thinking through the problem - when she visits the Wishing Tree and its caretaker, Zee, a boy. True solves problems, rising to challenges and helping people, and she does it every time by finding a solution that benefits everyone. The emotional storylines are profound - nuanced, uplifting, and deeply moral in a relational and caring way. But watching it several times with my son, I got to love it too - so much that I sometimes re-watched episodes after he went to bed! Why? Well. (He's a boy, though he loves cartoons aimed at girls such as Pinkalicious and Princess Power.) I was put off at first by the weirdly-shaped cartoonish citizens of the Rainbow Kingdom and the rather saccharine affect. My 4-year-old went through a period of watching only True - he loved it.
